Atowak’s latest horological creation draws profound inspiration from the ocean, channeling the graceful movements of manta rays into a revolutionary timepiece.
The Manta-X watch showcases the brand’s commitment to avant-garde design while introducing three world-first innovations that push the boundaries of mechanical watchmaking.
Redefining and Refining Tradition
The centerpiece of this ambitious creation is the 180-degree Hexa Prism 3D Wandering Hour System. Unlike traditional four-sided hour displays, Atowak employs a six-sided rotating hour wheel that executes a precise 60-degree pivot every hour, flipping in just 0.3 seconds to reveal the current hour.
This mechanism works in concert with the Involute Gear System, which replaces conventional Maltese cross mechanisms with a sophisticated single-tooth engagement solution, ensuring each hourly flip occurs with perfect precision.
Building upon technology from their Cobra model, Atowak has refined the hour wheel module with a minimalist mortise-and-tenon construction utilizing lightweight composite fiber. A single aluminum shaft supports both the hour wheel and swing arm, creating a clean aesthetic while the flexible materials absorb shocks and enhance durability.
Perhaps most visually striking is the Tidal Gravitas Minute Wheel System—a cascading array of 13 disks that flip sequentially every five minutes, reminiscent of falling dominoes. Central drive pins activate the surrounding minute wheels, which rotate their yin-yang faces in perfect synchronization. Individual bridges support each wheel, minimizing drag and maintaining alignment throughout the complex sequence.
This mechanical theater rests upon a modified Swiss Sellita SW200 movement paired with Atowak’s proprietary AK-07BA module. Despite its complexity, the watch maintains reliability through 26 ruby bearings and a friction-reducing carbon fiber track system that achieves COSC-level accuracy. The shock-absorbing carbon arms not only support the mechanism but visually evoke a manta ray’s flowing movement. A sapphire caseback provides a glimpse of the movement’s inner workings.
The Grade 5 titanium case measures 49.5mm across by 42mm top-to-bottom with a 13mm thickness. Its sculptural form balances fluid curves with sharp angles, topped by a double-domed sapphire crystal that offers an unobstructed view of the distinctive display. Super-LumiNova treatment ensures visibility in darkness—an appropriate bioluminescent touch for a deep-sea inspired timepiece. The crown sits at 12 o’clock, just above the brand’s engraved logo.
Available in Tidal Blue or Violet Purple colorways, the Manta-X comes paired with a hybrid leather-nylon strap that complements its lightweight construction and textural elements.
Priced at $3,800 USD, this limited production timepiece will be available for pre-order starting April 20, 2025, with deliveries expected in July 2025. The Manta-X represents Atowak’s most ambitious creation to date, blending mechanical innovation with biologically-inspired design in a wearable kinetic sculpture.
